🇬🇧✨ AMERICAN CULTURE THROUGH A BRITISH LENS: EXPLORING POPULAR CULTURE, CONSUMPTION & IDENTITY IN LONDON ✨🇬🇧
With Professor Cathy Gillis | July 11–23, 2027
Course: English C1001 Critical Thinking (available for credit)
Explore American culture through a British lens as we dive into the ways popular culture, consumption, media, and identity shape the world around us. Our classroom will be London, where iconic landmarks, museums, markets, and cultural institutions become opportunities to examine American culture from a distinctly British perspective.
From the Tower of London and Tate Modern to Borough Market, Camden, and Abbey Road, we’ll explore London’s history, creativity, and contemporary culture. Along the way, we’ll go behind the scenes at the BBC and Warner Bros. Studio, experience a traditional afternoon tea, and venture to Oxford for a glimpse into its historic academic world.
Through guided tours, museum visits, cultural experiences, and conversations, we’ll explore how music, film, television, branding, art, and popular culture influence consumption and identity—while experiencing the best of London along the way. 🎸🎭✨🇺🇸🇬🇧
